iGoogle & Mail Plane

I keep asking myself why Google stock is going to Pluto but when I see what they have done with iGoogle, and gMail I begin to understand that perhaps Google understands more about the way people use their Mac's than anyone else. There are some new options for Google including iGoogle, which allows you to design a portal page with a variety of widgets, gMail is now becoming more mainstream and for Mac users there is Mail Plane which allows you to utilize all the features of gmail without having to launch your browser.

First iGoogle. I used to use a customized Yahoo! homepage but Yahoo had done a great job keeping up with the times plus their information release to the Chinese government which caused imprisonment of a Blogger was despicable. I came across iGoogle a little while ago and let me tell you it's a winner. Not only can you localize it for your traffic, weather and time zone but there are also a ton of widgets you can add to display feeds from information that interests YOU.

In addition to iGoogle gMail has really been taking off and there are a lot of applications for Mac users. There are a host of dashboard widgets which display your gMail statistics such as unread messages and message titles and whom they are from but one of the best applications that I like is called Mail Plane. This application allows you to access a lot of features of gMail without having to launch your browser. The only downside is that it's kind of pricey at $24.95. Light users of gMail probably won't to pay that much money but for regular users it's a must have.
