How do you keep track of the latest versions
for all your installed applications? Apple's built-in
Software Update helps keep software like iTunes and
Mac OS X updated, but what about the rest? A lot of
applications on your Mac don't include their own
update checker and even if they do, they don't work
from a central place. With
AppFresh, you're in control
to decide what updates get installed. Spend your
time using your applications, not keeping them
up to date or checking for updates and fixes.
This is a great product and it's free.

Over the years I have tried many a web hosting
company with my Rapid Weaver web development
application but to date the best one that I have
found so far is Site Ground. For $5.95 a month you
get a bunch of resources, free domain name and easy
set up to publish your site with one click ease. I
highly recommend them to anyone who wants to get up
and running on the Web relatively quickly and with
ease.

If you are like me you might have some DVD's
with some great audio that you want to transfer to
CD's. I have found the perfect application to record
audio from DVD's or any web application. It's called
Audio Hijack and with this application I have made
some great CD's to listen to in the car from concert
DVD's.

Macworld is less then a week away and the
rumors are flying. However if you cut through the
hype and the crap it's going to be a home-hum
nonevent for most Mac users. I expect Apple to launch
a new ultra-thin notebook, a 16GB iPhone, upgraded
processors for iMac's and Macpro's, and announce a
deal to "rent" movies through iTunes and that's it. I
already have an iPhone so a 16Gb model is not in my
plans and I use a desktop rather than a laptop so the
biggest news for me is going to be the introduction
of Office 2008.

Apple for years has offered access to their
beta code through the Apple Developer Connection but
unless you really plan on developing code this is
just not worth the money. I was an Apple Developer
and downloaded several versions of the Leopard beta
but was very disappointed with their ADC tech help
and access to Leopard when it was finally released.

The new aluminum faced iMacs work as great as
the look but if you have the money the 24" iMac,
2.8GHz is definitely the way to go. It's super fast
and the big screen means that you can do a hell of a
lot of work while having several applications open at
once.

No matter where you live or what type of Mac
you have you should have some type of power backup
that allows you to safely shut down your Mac in the
event of power failure. I use an APC 800 for my iMac,
router and cable modem and it has been a lifesaver as
out here in California we get quite a few power
failures.
