Apple’s meltdown is
a classic example of problems that can result from
complex systems that have single points of failure.
In today’s case, the company appeared to invite
disaster by not separating its existing customers
from new ones. On Friday morning, Apple executives
acknowledged the problem and said the combination of
original iPhone users upgrading and new iPhone 3G
users trying to complete their activation swamped the
company’s servers. Does Apple care? Why should they?

And the excitement
builds...Reviews for the new iPhone have started to
appear all over including the Times and the Wall
Street Journal. The verdict? Although some features
are still lacking the new iPhone continies to set the
standard for cell phones and is a run away winner.

Another 2 million
Mac’s sold and if you go to any Apple store there is
no shortage of people looking into Mac’s. Microsoft
meanwhile has responded with a lame advertising
campaign to try and get people to upgrade to Vista
(talk about beating a dead horse!). In three days the
new iPhone goes on sales and even if 1% of people who
purchase an iPhone get Mac’s the bump in sales will
be huge. How does Apple do this? By simply providing
a great product with great execution.
