Performance test of new iMac's

imac_early2008
Primatelabs.ca published Geekbench scores for the iMacs that were released just last week. As I saw the release of the new iMac's I was wondering, should I go for another upgrade over my 24" 2.8 iMac? Well the results do not give me a compelling reason right now and maybe I can actually use my iMac for another year without needing to upgrade ! Read More...

Back up without Time Machine

images
I learned a valuable lesson last week about Time Machine and that is that is doesn't always work as advertised. In addition to slowing your computer down with back-ups and eating up external hard disk space Time Machine did not work the one time I needed it and I was greatly disappointed to learn that this issue has been around since Leopard was introduced. The new aluminum faced iMacs work as great as the look but if you have the money the 24" iMac, 2.8GHz is definitely the way to go. It's super fast and the big screen means that you can do a hell of a lot of work while having several applications open at once. Read More...

My primary stereo system is in my audio room but I wanted an audiophile system that allowed me to listen to my iPod in my bedroom. The problem was that although there were a lot of choices if I wanted to to have access to the songs and playlists on my iPod I had to walk across the room to my iPod. That was before I found George by Chestnut Hill Audio. Your iPod sits docked on top of this great tabletop unit but you can take the front panel of the unit with you to use as a remote with an LCD screen and it even has it's own charging stand. As soon as you get a new Mac you're going to want to be able to get some decent speakers to watch movies or listen to your iTunes. I have been through at least 4 different brands of speakers but have not found anything that sounds as good as the Sound Sticks. Not only do these speakers have great sound reproduction but they look really cool sitting next to a new shiny aluminum iMac. Read More...
