I
have been using Rapid Weaver for quite awhile
now and have to say that as a Web site development
program I am extremely happy with this great app.
However the Internet is continuing to evolve and
there are new web services that are popping up
everyday that promise to get you on the Web fast
and easily. One of the new comers on the block
is WIX which is an
online website development program. It's easy and
fun to use and in no time you could be online very
quickly.

Wix can be used with a variety of Web hosting sites
including BLOGGER and Wordpress and is free right
now. My guess is that eventually they will charge for
a premium service and maybe even a basic service.

I started a
new BLOG yesterday to help
friends navigate the somewhat complicated world
of wine. Rather then use Rapid Weaver, however,
I decided to give iWeb a chance because I really
like some of their templates. iWeb has improved
a lot and it's really easy to get on the Web
with iWeb but there are some things about the
program that just drive me nuts.

If
anyone likes to play Hearts I suggest that you avoid
at all costs a website called "Harwood Hearts". I was
a member of Harwood Hearts for almost a year but it
seems that if you call somebody a name the hosts have
the option to "ban you". Now keep in mind that you
can't use bad language on the site because all of
those words are not allowed to be used but as someone
who likes to play hearts I was taken back when I was
informed that I was permanently banned? So if I pay
$30 to join you have the right to keep my money and
not let me play? What's wrong with this picture. One
of the problems with websites like these is that they
get to play God and determine, like a corrupt power
official, who will play and who will not play. A sad
state of affairs and I advise all who read this BLOG
to avoid this site at all costs.
What is about Apple users that makes some of them
such zealots? I am referring to the "Apple can do no
wrong and is God" syndrome that a lot of Mac users
exhibit. Recently, with the release of 10.5.2 some
people were saying praising Apple for upgrading
Leopard while there were a vocal minority who felt
that 10.5.2 should have been part of the original
Leopard release and that this was just some fixes to
catch up. For me it doesn't matter, Leopard has
worked flawlessly in original release and 10.5.2
update but one has to wonder if Apple has its
priorities straight. The Mac OSX is picking up share
and with that comes the responsibility to maintain
quality releases. Leopard was delayed due to
allocation of resources to the iPhone and with the
delay of Windows 7.0 till 2011 Apple has an
opportunity to continue to make inroads in share if
they can prove that they are a better company that
Microsoft and release better products. With increased
share also comes the responsibility of maintaining
their excellent customer service and to be sure this
is no easy challenge.

So you just shelled out a lot of money for an
iMac or Mac Book and now want to start loading
applications and utilities. Where can you find some
really great software for free? Well
Thrift Mac maintains an
excellent website that lists the latest in free
applications and utilities for everything Mac.
This great site even has software broken down by
categories so you can quickly find software that
you're looking for.

There are a ton of Website out there devoted to
everything Apple but most tend to be one sided
towards Apple as in "Apple can never do any wrong".
Such Websites, such as Mac Daily News, do not provide
a fair balance on some of Apple's shortcomings from a
very demanding customer base but I have found one
website,
Applematters, that actually
presents a pretty balanced view of some of
Apple's mistakes.

Web 2.0 is great as a place to get all kinds of
information and the latest entry is a website called
Page Flakes. Like iGoogle Page
Flakes is a portal page that allows you to
layout the page and customize it with the feeds
that are important to you. There are a lot to
chose from and you can even integrate Page
Flakes with your Gmail account. I have
categories for Apple products, New York Jets and
my local weather. It loads quickly and there are
a lot of themes to customize the look the feel.

I keep asking myself why Google stock is going
to Pluto but when I see what they have done with
iGoogle, and gMail I begin to understand that perhaps
Google understands more about the way people use
their Mac's than anyone else. There are some new
options for Google including iGoogle, which allows
you to design a portal page with a variety of
widgets, gMail is now becoming more mainstream and
for Mac users there is Mail Plane which allows you to
utilize all the features of gmail without having to
launch your browser.
